Grace Lift 2008 - Lies We Believe
“You will know the truth and the truth will set you free” John 8:32
April 5, 2008
Hosted by Hunter Hills Church of Christ, Prattville
About Grace Lift
Grace Lift was designed as a way to help women take care of women. One day is set aside each year to provide uplifting fellowship and God-centered information.
The ladies at Vaughn Park created Grace Lift and have graciously hosted it for the past two years. The ladies at Hunter Hills have been invited to carry on their tradition this year.
It is our hope to continue their theme of encouraging all who attend to become the women God is calling us to be. This year our focus is on the deceptions most commonly believed by Christian women. These deceptions cause us to experience feelings of defeat, bitterness, and hopelessness. Insightful and Spirit-led speakers will show us how God’s truth can set us free to walk a life of fulfillment, joy, and peace.
We invite you to come and share with other Christian sisters the energy and renewal that comes from praising God together.

Breakout Sessions (You will be able to choose 2 of these sessions to attend throughout the day)
- Lies Women Believe About Sin, Sue Crabtree
Do you think that you can sin and get away with it? Do you believe that your sins aren’t really that
bad? Or do you feel your sins are too big for God’s grace? Do you feel you are not fully
responsible for your actions and reactions? We are all sinners! Let’s place our trust in Jesus and
what He did to rid us of our sins!
- Lies Women Believe About Priorities, Deet Scott
“How in the world am I supposed to get all this done? It’s like it never ends....I stay busy!” Does
this remind you of things you say frequently? Do you believe you should be able to do it all?
With all the hurriedness of life do you think you can make it without consistent time in the
Word and in prayer?
- Lies Women Believe About Marriage, Anna Bobo
Do you believe that you have to have a husband to be happy? Do you believe that you have to
change your spouse? Is your husband supposed to serve you? Do you believe that submission to
your husband is an old concept? Do you believe that because he won’t be the leader then you
have to be? Marriage is hard work!
- Lies Women Believe About Children, Rebecca Horn
Who among you is the perfect mother? Do you believe that children need to be exposed to the
“real world” so they can learn to function in it? Do you believe that all children will go through a
rebellious stage? There are so many lies Satan tells us to keep us from raising godly children who
will impact generations to come.
- Lies Women Believe About Emotions, Phoebe Dunn
P.M.S. aka Pretty Moody Sister! What woman doesn’t have issues with her emotions? We have
adopted philosophies such as…”If I feel something it must be true”; “I can’t control my emotions”;
“I can’t help how I respond when my hormones are out of whack? And “All I need is medication
and I’ll be able to fix this depression.” Only God can change a Pretty Moody Sister into the
Patient Motivating Sister He wants her to be.
- Lies Women Believe About Circumstance, Melinda Hopson
“If I didn’t have 4 children four and under I would be a patient person.” “If only I hadn’t lost that
child I could be happy today.” Do your circumstances make you who you are? “I am a Christian
doing the best I can do; why do I have to suffer?” “I thought God was supposed to take all this out of my life.” Do you believe that circumstances will never change and you just can’t take it anymore!
