HURRICANE KATRINA RELIEF EFFORTS

Needs still present in Pascagoula as Hurricane Season Approaches

An Update Central Church of Christ

Hurricane Katrina was the largest national disaster to ever occur in the United States. Landfall was on Monday morning, August 29, 2005. In just a few days supplies started arriving at the Central Church of Christ. Christians from around the world have made the journey to Pascagoula to help the thousands of people here who were flooded out of their homes. The work is ongoing and the workers continue to come to the Coast.

Hurricane Season is June 1 - November 30. Please stay aware of tropical systems when making plans to come. Cancel trip if a tropical system is in the Gulf.

Current Needs Include:

SKILLED LABOR: electricians, plumbers, carpenters, sheetrock finishers, etc. We could currently use a MECHANIC (one of our church vans is not operating). Electricians are in big demand on the Coast. We currently have people waiting for electrical work so that they can proceed on their homes.

UNSKILLED LABOR: clothing distribution, reception area, warehouse workers, phone work updating work orders, kitchen help, cleaning of the church building, debris removal, yard work, etc. There is something for everyone to do if you are willing to work.

PEOPLE LABOR: We need counselors, case managers, evangelists (soul winners) to reach the contacts that are currently on the desk and needing contact.

BLOCKED OUT WEEKS: Some weeks are already full, and some weeks are set aside for rest. Please note the work crew report located HERE when selecting times to come and work.

BIBLES. Buy a case of 24 nice Bibles for 104.80 and donate them to Central to pass out to the community!

FEED WORKERS! We need some area churches to adopt a day to feed workers. One idea is to cook casseroles and freeze them. Port City Church of Christ in Mobile collected frozen casseroles and delivered them for use when needed. Another food item needed is cakes, pies, and cookies for workers. If you are within driving distance of our area, could your church adopt a day each week to feed the relief workers? This will bless some very dedicated, and very tired, ladies who have been helping others. Financial donations for food are accepted. We feed our workers three times a day, seven days a week.
