2008 Ministry Descriptions
Adult Education - View Additional Information
Adult Bible class teachers play a vital role in helping and encouraging Christian adults to grow in faith and maturity. No one will benefit from teaching more than the teachers themselves. There are opportunities for men and women, short term or long term. We will not ask you to teach more than one term per year. Be thinking about (and developing) the subject matter that God has put on your heart. If you have the gift of teaching, please consider teaching an adult class. Just sign up and we will be in contact with you.
Education Committee, Chairman: David Cannon
Ladies Adult Education: Wilma Phillips
Audio/Visual
If you have an interest in A/V and are willing and able to learn, you are needed in our A/V ministry. Ministry areas include operating a live video camera and video switching equipment, a sound board and lights, as well as running the power point presentations each week. Please consider rotating in as an Audio/Visual Technician.
Ministry Leader: Randy Bowman
Building Maintenance
Building and grounds volunteers are needed in a number of areas: painting, cleaning projects, minor plumbing and electrical repairs, landscaping, etc. Work hours are flexible to fit your schedule. A work day will be scheduled when a project arises, and you will be contacted with an assignment.
Ministry Leader: Clive Sansom
Care Meals
This ministry responds to members’ needs for home-cooked meals due to sickness, hospitalization, or a death in the family. The ministry leader will coordinate meals and delivery dates, using several volunteers for large-volume or long-term food needs. If you are sick or know of someone who has a food need, please notify the ministry leader. There are many families ready, willing, and able to help, but we cannot help if we are not informed.
Ministry Leaders: Gail Chapman, Joy Greer
Children's Church
We are always looking for volunteers to shine the light of Jesus into the lives of our 4, 5, and 6 year olds during Children’s Church. Volunteers will not be asked to help more than one Sunday a quarter. Curriculum is provided, and you can gather any extra materials you need from our resource room. Come join in the fun and fellowship of Children’s Church. (4th – 12th graders can sign up to be helpers!)
Ministry Leader: Amy Newsom
Children’s Education
If you have a heart for children and a passion to see them grow in the knowledge and admonition of the Lord, then this is the ministry for you. You can get involved by signing up for a quarter to teach or help in one of our Wednesday night or Sunday morning classes. We provide you with user-friendly curriculum and a fully stocked resource room to make teaching as easy and rewarding as possible.View images from 2007 Children's Gala.

Communion Preparation
Volunteers prepare the Sunday communion on a monthly basis (including clean up and setup). We generally have a primary and secondary volunteer for each month.
Ministry Leader: Jo Tatum
Communion Servers and Ushers
Communion servers are asked to help pass out collection plates and communion trays. Ushers are asked to serve communion and be available to help people find their classroom or find a seat at the worship assembly. Ushers may also be needed to hand out bulletins, serving as a greeter.
Ministry Leaders: Eric Galloway, John Mitchell
E-Prayer
If you have a prayer request, through this ministry you can have several Christians praying for you right away. Simply log on to our website (hunterhills.org), click on e-prayer, and type in your request. If you do not have access to the Internet, you may call our e-prayer ministry leader and leave her a message, or call the church office.
Ministry Leaders: Kristy Green
Evangelism (World Bible School)
Believing it is our responsibility today to take the gospel to all the world, the evangelism ministry utilizes the teaching resources of World Bible School in its efforts to do so. World Bible School uses Bible correspondence courses to give more people around the world the opportunity to learn God's Truths and involving more Christians to help them. WBS is one of the most proven, cost-effective means of spreading the Gospel to a lost world. Students' names and addresses are furnished, along with all the necessary teaching materials.
Ministry Leader: Bill Dodson
Flowers
Giving flowers from the church during times of bereavement communicates a special message of caring. We need everyone’s help to get timely information about when one of our church members has passed away. (Flowers are not sent for stays in the hospital.) No need to sign up, but remember to tell the ministry leader/church office as soon as possible after a death.
Ministry Leader: Jean Hogan
Greeters (Ministry of the First Impression)
The front line of contact with guests at Hunter Hills is our Greeters Ministry. If you have a heart for making people feel welcome, please help us with this extremely important and fulfilling work – possibly the most one-on-one ministry in the church each Sunday. Opportunities are available for male and female members, including teens and couples. Volunteers for this ministry should be fairly familiar with the Hunter Hills people and building layout. Volunteers commit to greeting on Sunday morning for two weeks or a month at a time to add continuity and familiar faces to those who visit and return on Sundays.
Ministry Leader: Vic Hunt
Guest Luncheons / Fellowships
If you would like to help as a host or hostess for our Guest Luncheons please let us know how frequently you would like to participate and one of our ministry leaders will contact you with the details of what your duties will be.
Ministry Leaders: Marilyn Colson, Annette Latham, Martha Smith
Hunter Hills Connections - Read Additional Information
Relationships are the life blood of any church, but it’s always a challenge to get acquainted with each other. The purpose of this ministry is to promote fellowship and unity as a church family. We hope to accomplish this through: (1) New Member Orientation Dinners host families introduce new members to our church family; (2) Guess Who’s Coming to Dinner where volunteers host others in their homes for a meal; (3) Sunday Night @ the Building—this is an old-fashioned Sunday night where all our small groups come together with praise time and short devotion; and (4) Church @ the Y. We will have an annual summer Sunday night service at the YMCA followed by a time of fun and games.
Ministry Leaders: Keith & Angela Cantrell
Member Maintenance
This ministry maintains the online directory for all member photos and information. Please keep the church office informed of any changes so the directory can be kept up-to-date. The directory is password protected so if you would like to access it, simply e-mail the church office and we will give it to you. You may also see a demonstration of the directory at the ministry fair.
Ministry Leaders: Bryan and Cindy Clark
Men’s Retreat
Plans are already being made for the 2008 Men’s Retreat to be held in early to mid August at Mt. Cheaha State Park lodge. We had great participation and a tremendously positive response based on the new location and Friday-to-Sunday format at the 2007 retreat, so we do plan to repeat that this coming year. Many jobs are open for helping. If you are interested, check the box, we’ll contact you.. Photos from men's retreats: 2007 Men's Retreat; 2005 Men's Retreat;

Missions
The Hunter Hills Mission begins not only at the end of the church driveway, but literally before you leave our property. Hunter Hills family members of all ages are active partners in responding to needs right here in our community as well as in neighboring communities and countries. This year will begin with a new vision for the work in Honduras as we establish a resource center to capitalize on past successes. Whatever your interest, talent, or age--and whether you choose to go or to provide support from here--there is a place for you as we fulfill the Hunter Hills mantra, “A church of Christ serving its community.” Read historical and current information about Hurricane Katrina Relief.
Ministry Leaders: Ron and Tommy Guy
New Moms
This ministry coordinates meals for new moms and organizes the annual Baby Dedication Day on March 2nd. If you volunteer you will be contacted by a ministry leader when a need arises.
Ministry Leaders: Sherri Campbell, Claudia Connell
Nursery
Moms, have you ever been frustrated with all the distractions that keep you from paying attention at church? One of the most helpful ministries in any church is the nursery. The Lord has blessed us with so many babies! With this blessing comes a great responsibility and opportunity to get involved. We are always needing people who will tend God’s youngest sheep during worship in either the infant or toddler nurseries. Please, if you are a man or woman (over 18), and you have ever been kept by a sweet nursery worker, it is time to return the blessing. Anyone who has a child that uses our nursery services is expected to sign up for a time to serve.
Ministry Leaders: Infant: Jerri Hall
Toddler: Karen Phillips
Prison Ministry
For the past few years, the members at Hunter Hills have been involved in local prison ministries. Currently we conduct worship services at the state women’s prison (Tutwiler Prison), and at Staten Men’s prison. We have also continued some support of a fatherhood class at Staten (started by Carl Carpenter). There is some new involvement going on at Maxwell Federal Prison Camp. Involvement at state or federal prisons requires a background check and a training event that requires significant lead time. Jesus said, “I was in prison, and you visited me....” If you would like to be involved, check the box and one of the ministry leaders will be in touch with you.
Ministry Leaders:
Men’s Prison: Jeff Chapman
Women’s Prison: Deet Scott
Real Men
Men meet in the multipurpose room for a time of discussion and prayer every Friday morning from 6:30 – 7:30. Feel free to join us for this time of mutual encouragement.

Recreation
If you are interested in the fun and fellowship of church athletics please check the box beside the areas in which you might consider participating in 2008. The choices this year are Co-Ed volleyball, and Men’s and Women’s Softball. We need volunteers to be coaches or leaders for each sport. If you or your company would like to sponsor a team, please let us know.
Ministry Leaders: Rusty Cone, Donald Tadlock

Small Group Ministry
Don’t miss out on one of our most vital ministries—Small Groups. Beat the up-hill battle of finding a meaningful connection with other Christians. Our Sunday night small groups give us the chance to engage each other in meaningful relationships, and gives us all a sense of belonging. Our small group ministry is perhaps our most vital building block for fellowship, support, and encouragement, as well as spiritual and numerical growth as a body. Groups usually meet on Sunday nights. Sign up for a small group today!
Ministry Leader: Lane Easterling
Special Events/Decorations
The multi-purpose room is beautifully decorated according to the season or special events. It’s a 10-12 hour job for each complete seasonal change in decorations. If you are interested in helping with this, contact the ministry leader.
Ministry Leader: Annette Latham
S-STOP – a commUNITY Bible study
Life is a fantastic voyage and living life with a positive attitude is essential to true happiness! In order for any voyage to be successful, stops must occur along the way, to refuel and help maintain this positive attitude. S-STOP allows us to "Be still" and realize God is in control (Psalm 46:10). The fuel we need for our soul comes from the word of God, but we don’t realize this unless we take action and S-STOP (Souls Strengthened Together with One Purpose). Our one purpose is to know God’s word and we are doing this by meeting and gaining strength TOGETHER. We have souls from many different churches around our commUNITY that attend the Bible study each Sunday evening. Information about locations and times are available on our website under S-STOP at: www.hunterhills.org.
Ministry Facilitator: Boyd Wainwright
Vacation Bible School 2007
Make your plans now to volunteer for this year’s VBS on June 2-6. It’s sure to be a blast for the children of Hunter Hills and our community. We are anticipating around 150 children to come and share in the stories of our Lord. It will be held from 8:30-12:00 and will include a Wednesday evening performance for the parents and Hunter Hills family. There are many ways you can use your God-given talents to make this year’s VBS a success. This is a powerhouse of talents, work and blessings.

(The estimated personal cost of each basket is in the range of $15.)

Youth Ministry
Teens today need spiritually solid adult role models to walk with them through this very exciting yet volatile time in their lives. From teaching classes and chaperoning trips to preparing food and providing transportation, there are many opportunities to serve in this ministry. If you feel like you are blessed with a gift for impacting teens, come join us and make a difference in the life of a young person.
